Product Description
Double Taper wedges have set the standard in the Pacific Northwest for plastic faller wedges for over 40 years. These wedges are made of extremely hard, high impact ABS plastic. The surface of this wedge is smooth and drives very easily, but it can also back out in certain situations. Wedges have florescent orange heads on a yellow body, so they are easy to see in brush. As with all wedges, use safety glasses when driving them. By George N. Lawrence
I have used both the 98A and its bigger brother the 100A (10") for many years and recommend them highly for all non-frozen wood.I have given a detailed review of the Double Taper 8" 98A in my review of the Double Taper 10" 100A Double Taper 10" Tree Falling Wedge #100A Smooth and included what I hope is a helpful description of push-in and pull-out forces and simple tests that will help you judge the safety. Most other wedges you will find these days have excessive friction due to texturing that might be appropriate for frozen wood, but most people in the lower 48 states will never see frozen wood. If the local lakes are hard frozen enough to drive on, then you might also have frozen trees. Special wedges are available that have been designed for frozen wood. Excessive friction makes the "all weather" wedge almost twice as hard to drive for non-frozen wood with no improvement in safety.
